Describestthe codes on our tomatoes when being sold
Tomatoes come in two growing types Determinate and Indeterminate
Indeterminate - these tomatoes keep growing and getting taller - they will produce fruit slowly over the time of the plant. They must be staked to support the plant.
Determinate - these are the smaller tomato plants, generally from 3 - 5 feet tall. Perfect for container planting or if you just want a smaller plant. The should be staked or caged. Usually the fruit comes on all at the same time so they are good for canning
These are generally the cherry, plum, grape, pear smaller tomatoes.
I've made 4 categories of tomatoes: Slicing, Sauce, Stuffing and Salad
SL - Slicing - these grow to sandwich slicing size
SA - Sauce - these are grown for cooking into tomato sauces and paste
SAL - Salad sized tomatoes to eat whole or slice small
ST - Stuffing tomatoes - generally the middle is watery to allow room for a stuffing to be added then eaten or cooked.
Red, Black or Purple - Most acidic, vibrant, tart
Pink - Less acidic, red and black's milder cousin
Orange - Quite low on the acid scale
Yellow - Mellow on the acid scale
White and Striped - Sweetest, almost fruity flavors
